We skipped the traffic and jumped green men. The oak tree was cut but here it is, in leaf – in a picture book, a street sign, a shop.

This poetry film was inspired by the David Hart Memorial Walk around the Birmingham suburb of Selly Oak, curated and led by the poet Rosie Miles at the Birmingham Literature Festival 2022.

On the walk, we explored places that featured in David Hart’s poetry, read excerpts aloud, and left behind visible reminders of text in chalk marks and paper tags. The film aims to capture and respond to David Hart’s work as well as to the specifics of the walk held in tribute to him.
