Kerry Ridgeway X Offa’s Dyke // Shropshire

A song but longer. Holding nothing back.
Magpie and robin edge the ridge on tiptoes.
At a crossroads on the border of the Welsh and Shropshire Marches, two ancient pathways cross one another; the Kerry Ridgeway and Offa’s Dyke.
This film explores spaces of transition that have persisted over time, and reimagines their histories through poetry and song.
The film plays on conventions from folk horror and hauntology, with visual cues in the shot choices and typography, and audio cues in the music and sound design. 360-degree footage is compressed into 2D space, allowing a presence to emerge from deep within the earth.
The stories take shape in two halves; Kerry Ridgeway’ becomes the character of a lovelorn maiden haunting the track with a folk ballad, while the Offa’s Dyke Path gives up clues to its history in the hollows, ditches and traces of those who have passed.
