Oswestry Old Racecourse // Shropshire

“
Old thoughts will drop like coins from a pocket purse
After the rumble of hooves has died away, the remains of a racecourse and its crumbling grandstand offer a space for calm contemplation.
Filmed at Oswestry Old Racecourse, now a park and nature reserve. It sits on a site that is high above sea level, with far reaching views of the Oswestry lowlands, the Shropshire Plain, and on into the Welsh hills.
The word ‘yielding’ in racing terminology is used to describe a turf course where the ground is soft and has lots of give when dampened by rain. The film plays on this term, to explore a positive perspective on ageing – where finding space for memories to ‘break the soil’ leads to leaning in, letting go, and reaching acceptance.
